Food for Thought
“Food for Thought” from recognized sources that EVERYONE must know
1) “No Carb” or “Low Carb” diets do not work in the long run.
Initially it may appear like you are losing weight but it is mostly the water in the body. Such drastic diets are, moreover, not sustainable over long periods. The body also misses out on major nutrients and dietary fibre needed for normal body functioning.
2) “No Fat” diet is only a Fad diet.
The body does require fats for normal body functions and absorption of certain vitamins and nutrients. A “Low Fat” diet is therefore more achievable.
3) Fasting or a Diet too low in kilojoules is not good.
When you fast, the body perceives it as “Famine” mode and starts storing fats and lowers its BMR (Basal metabolic rate), which is then counter productive to the purpose of losing weight.
4) Skipping meals is bad for weight loss.
Skipping meals sends a message to the body to lower the BMR and to make matters worse, it may push the person to eat more or “Binge” on their next meal.
5) Remember “There are no short cuts or Fat Burning foods” as many advertisements may claim.
Some Caffeine/ Tannin containing foods, if had in small amounts may increase the BMR. So do some Chilli foods too. But there have not been any extensive studies or reliable sources on this.
